EB Sustainability
With a strong environmental appeal, inks and varnishes used in EB process do not emit volatile organic components or do it a very reduce scale and allow great saving of material, since it permits reduction of the substrate quantity printing, such as, in the printing phase, the loss of substrates can reach levels between 30% to 40%, in comparison with the conventional packaging system. Additionally, it is possible to eliminate the need of lamination and reduce the losses in the setup process.
VOCs reduction in the atmosphere can be up to 15 times less than the rates relative to flexographic printing systems with solvents or up to 20 times less than that of printing in rotogravures. The flexible packaging industry, monthly, emits thousands tons of solvents in the atmosphere, some potentially dangerous to human health or to the ozone layer. Considering all this data, GELFLEX-EB meets the strict Europeans standards and eliminates the need of solvent burning or recovering, which implies CO2 emission and increases production costs. In addition, the ink allows that the cleaning of equipment be carried out only with alcohol or water with detergents systems, reducing cost and process toxicity.
